VIDEO: Such Statements Indicate a Lack of Understanding of the Situation, Zakharova to Pashinyan

Who can say if the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh would be better without the Russian peacekeeping contingent? This was stated by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, during a briefing on Thursday, commenting on Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's words that if "the Russian Federation cannot ensure stability and security in Nagorno-Karabakh for objective or subjective reasons."

Pashinyan noted that Russia should initiate discussions in the UN Security Council and raise the issue of endowing the Russian peacekeeping contingent in Nagorno-Karabakh with a UN Security Council mandate or sending an additional multinational peacekeeping force to the region.

"Can I ask the question: would it have been better without the peacekeeping contingent? I think the answer is unequivocal. There may be a lot of talk about enhancing effectiveness, I repeat once again, that everyone is currently engaged in resolving this situation. Making such statements means not understanding the situation at hand," she stated.
