Pashinyan on Prisoners Held in Azerbaijan
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated during a government session that Azerbaijan's ongoing claims denying the existence of Nagorno-Karabakh constitute a blatant violation of the trilateral agreement.
“Azerbaijan is grossly and continuously violating the 7th point of the trilateral statement, according to which internally displaced persons and refugees are to return to the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh and adjacent areas under the control of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees,” said Pashinyan.
He also noted that until now, UN representatives have been unable to enter Nagorno-Karabakh due to obstacles raised by Azerbaijan.
According to Pashinyan, Azerbaijan is also violating the 8th point of the trilateral agreement, which states that an exchange of prisoners of war, hostages, and other detained persons should take place. “Azerbaijan is currently holding and refusing to return to Armenia at least 33 prisoners, hostages, and other detained persons, which is a gross violation of humanitarian law,” emphasized Pashinyan.
