Zakharova Accuses EU of Creating Situation in Kosovo
The European Union has effectively been modeling the current situation in Kosovo for years, said Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
“Well, why ‘inaction’? This is precisely the situation that the EU has been, in fact, modeling for years,” she wrote on her Telegram channel, commenting on Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabić’s remarks about the country being on the brink of war due to the Kosovo Prime Minister and the EU's inaction.
Yesterday, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić announced that the country’s leadership would send an official request to the NATO KFOR mission commander regarding the distribution of the Serbian police and military contingent in Kosovo and Metohija.
On Saturday, Serbs in Kosovo set up barricades on the highways in the northern region due to the arrest of Dejan Pantić, the former police officer of the self-proclaimed republic's Ministry of Internal Affairs, by the Albanian authorities in Kosovo. Pantić, who resigned in November along with his colleagues from the Serbian police in the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the northern region, was arrested at the Jarinje checkpoint while attempting to leave central Serbia on suspicion of 'terrorism'.
During the night, protesters set up tents to guard the barricades. The self-proclaimed Republic of Kosovo's police, in turn, closed the entry from central Serbia for vehicles and pedestrians heading north.
