Azerbaijan Not to Discuss Issues with Armenia or Other States, Hajiyev Responds to Grigoryan
The Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan, Hikmet Hajiyev, has responded to the statement made by the Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia, Armen Grigoryan. In an interview with Azerbaijani media, Hajiyev reported that during a meeting with Grigoryan mediated by U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan on September 27 in Washington, he stated that Azerbaijan will not discuss the rights and security issues of the Armenian population in Nagorno-Karabakh with international partners, as "this is an internal affair of Azerbaijan."
At the same time, Hajiyev mentioned that such issues have been discussed, but no agreements have been reached. "Statements suggesting that an agreement was reached in Washington to create international mechanisms regarding the rights and security of the Armenian population in Azerbaijan’s Nagorno-Karabakh are false. Discussing an issue in negotiations does not mean that an agreement has been achieved on that issue. Azerbaijan does not intend to discuss this matter with either Armenia or other countries and organizations," said the Azerbaijani president's assistant, adding that "the Armenian side is deliberately attempting to disrupt the negotiations over the peace treaty and creates only the illusion of negotiations."
It is worth recalling that Grigoryan had stated that an agreement was reached in Washington to create an international mechanism so that Nagorno-Karabakh and Azerbaijan could discuss the rights and security of the Armenians in Nagorno-Karabakh.
