"After This Reform, the KGB Will Disappear in Armenia" - Kocharyan
The reforms proposed by the government are part of a broader set of significant reforms reflected in the government's program. This was stated today, December 9, during an extraordinary session of the National Assembly while discussing a package of bills amending the law on the security of persons under special state protection and related laws, by Andranik Kocharyan, a member of the "Civil Contract" faction and chairman of the National Assembly's Defense and Security Committee.
According to the MP, Armenia needs to "emerge from the shadow of the KGB."
"We have changed the name. Today this institution is called the National Security Service, but in terms of its governance and the perception of citizens, the NSS still remains the KGB. After this reform, the KGB will disappear," Kocharyan said.
The MP noted that there have been several discussions with representatives of the NSS, and they have supported the reforms.
