The car had summer tires: What caused the accident on the Gyumri-Yerevan highway?
Facebook users are reporting that early this morning, on December 5, several vehicles left the roadway on the Gyumri-Yerevan highway in the Lanjik-Mastara section. According to them, the cause was black ice.
NEWS.am contacted the Road Department Foundation to understand what is currently happening in that section of the road and why the vehicles went off the road.
Officials from the Road Department Foundation stated that black ice was not the cause of the accident. Two vehicles were removed from the scene, and two others had exited the roadway independently.
“The road is serviced by Sinohydro Corporation, which constructed the specified section of the road. The company participated in the vehicle recovery efforts. It should be noted that no precipitation was recorded in that area, and there was thick fog on the road. An immobilized truck was parked on the roadway, which was struck by a passenger vehicle traveling at high speed on worn summer tires, causing other vehicles to also crash,” officials told NEWS.am.
It is important to note that five citizens have been hospitalized.
