VIDEO: Are We Suspending Aid to Armenia? Closed Meeting Goes Live at One Point
The decision by the CSTO to provide support to Armenia may be suspended. This was announced by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov during a joint meeting of the foreign, defense ministers, and secretaries of the CSTO. While the meeting is being conducted in a closed format, it briefly went live, and Lavrov's comments suggested that the decision to assist Armenia could be delayed. Civilnet reports.
“If we suspend the decision to help Armenia, what happens to the statement and declaration? It seems to me there was a package agreement, and therefore, we will probably sign it later in an operational manner,” Lavrov stated. Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan responded to him, but his words were not heard as the microphone was off. The live stream was then interrupted.
The joint meeting of the foreign ministers, defense ministers, and secretaries of the CSTO member states continues. Earlier in the public part of the same meeting, CSTO Secretary General Stanislav Zas announced that the draft decision of the CSTO Security Council to provide assistance to Armenia has been generally agreed upon. Zas also addressed the situation along the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, noting that tensions remain, with almost daily exchanges of fire occurring.
