VIDEO: NASA's spacecraft deliberately crashes into asteroid, CNN
NASA's spacecraft has deliberately crashed into an asteroid as part of humanity's first planetary defense test, CNN reports. The collision occurred at 7:14 PM.
Although the Dimorphos asteroid was not at risk of colliding with Earth, this demonstration could determine how to confront space rocks that may pose a threat to our planet in the future.
“We are entering a new era for humanity, a time when we potentially have the ability to protect ourselves from dangerous asteroid impacts,” said Lori Glaze, director of NASA’s Planetary Science Division. “This is an amazing thing. We've never had this opportunity before.”
