One of Putin's Key Faces of Disinformation: US Tough Assessment and Russia's Response
The statement issued by the Russian Embassy in Washington describes the publication by the US State Department regarding Margarita Simonyan, the editor-in-chief of the Rossiya Segodnya media group and RT, as a manifestation of envy towards foreign public trust in local media.
"We have taken note of the information posted on the State Department's website regarding Margarita Simonyan, the head of one of the world's most famous Russian media outlets, Russia Today. This is yet another example of the furious attempts to undermine our journalists' accurate reporting of international events. The fact that the State Department has taken on this task is a barely concealed manifestation of envy towards the foreign public's sympathy and trust in the work of the Russian media," the statement reads.
It is worth recalling that the State Department's website featured an article in which Margarita Simonyan is referred to as “one of the chief faces of President Vladimir Putin's propaganda and disinformation.”
