Greece Responds to Turkey's Threats
Greece has responded to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who reiterated calls for Athens to cease the militarization of islands in the eastern Aegean Sea, as reported by Kathimerini.
“No historical claims and baseless myths that cannot pose challenges, let alone substitute for international law and treaties,” said Greek government spokesperson Yiannis Oikonomou.
“Absolutely nothing can in any way harm our sovereign rights and our national sovereignty. This is why we call on Turkey to stop its provocative tactics and understand that the only path is responsible and honest dialogue within the framework of international law,” he added.
During his speech while observing Turkish military exercises near the coast of Izmir in the Aegean Sea, Erdoğan called on Athens to “avoid dreams, actions, and statements that cause regret” and mentioned Turkey's war in the early 1920s.
