Azerbaijanis Are Introducing New Conditions: 'Hraparak'
'Hraparak' reports that there have been complaints that the construction work on the Khot-Varotan alternative road has been halted for about a month. It should be noted that months after the war, when 21 kilometers of the Vorotan section of the Goris-Kapan road was handed over to Azerbaijanis, several villages in Syunik were left hoping for this gravel road.
In November of last year, Azerbaijan established customs posts on the Vorotan section of the Goris-Kapan highway and the Kapan-Jakaten road, putting about 9 villages in an enclave status. The Khot-Varotan alternative road is the shortest connection through which supplies such as bread and groceries have been delivered to these villages for months.
Construction work on this road was ongoing in recent months but was periodically halted due to landslides. However, for more than a month, no work has been conducted at all. Residents of the communities have heard that the work was stopped at the request of the Azerbaijani side, as this road does not meet international standards and cannot serve as a so-called 'corridor' for Azerbaijan in the future.
According to the local residents, this highway connects the villages of Ayvazli and others to Nakhichevan, following an agreement reached between the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia. The Azerbaijanis want to travel on a well-equipped road that complies with international standards.
We tried to obtain clarification from the Ministry of Territorial Administration as to why the work has been halted. We were advised to send a written inquiry, to which, who knows when, we will receive a response.
