US Ambassador Discusses 30 Years of Investment in Armenia
Since 1992, the United States has provided approximately $3 billion in support for social development and the establishment of democracy in Armenia. This was announced today by US Ambassador to Armenia Lynne Tracy during the "Armenian Democracy Forum" held at the Marriott Hotel in Yerevan.
“What we do in the realm of assistance would not be possible without cooperation, without the will of the people, and without individuals who wanted to benefit from and reap the fruits of that support. And the United States has gained a good partner in the form of the Armenian government. In implementing reforms and in our democratic agenda, we are working in various sectors aimed at promoting democracy, building democratic institutions, combating corruption, developing the economy, and most importantly, investing in human capital,” said the ambassador, adding that investments in human capital are what allow democracy to grow and evolve.
As a prominent example of investment in human capital, Lynne Tracy cited the establishment of the American University of Armenia and the funding of various educational programs. “This is not just one investment, but an investment whose results will be visible for a long time,” she said.
The American diplomat also spoke about future US projects in Armenia, particularly emphasizing the need for continuity of programs in the public sector, various journalism initiatives, the fight against corruption, and reforms in judicial and law enforcement systems.
