Alen Simonian's Harsh Statements on CSTO and Russia's Policies

The CSTO must either act or declare that it does not exist. This was stated today, January 12, during a conversation with reporters, by the President of the National Assembly of Armenia, Alen Simonian.

“The CSTO must either declare that the border of Armenia, passing near Jermuk and the Sevan Lake, is within its zone of responsibility, or it must announce that its zone of responsibility is undefined. In other words, where do they want to conduct exercises? For example, if we conduct exercises next to Jermuk, what will that conclude? They will come, conduct exercises for two hours, and leave, while we remain face to face with our adversary and Turkey. I think the Russian establishment understands well what is happening. I believe they should also somewhat assess our restraint. We expect at least political steps that would lead to the stabilization of the situation and the opening of the Lachin corridor. At the very least, the main force of the CSTO, which is Russia, because I do not expect Belarusian or Kazakh soldiers or diplomats to engage in this matter.

We are accused of having good relations with France and the USA, but at least those countries are making pointed statements. The most verbose and non-specific statements constantly come from the side where the most direct statements should have been heard,” he said.
