Yes, Wars Are Won or Lost on the Battlefield: Borel Reaffirms His Statement
The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, has reaffirmed his stance on the need for a military resolution to the conflict in Ukraine and the further expansion of military aid to the country. He made the corresponding statement during a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Luxembourg.
“Yes, wars are won or lost on the battlefield,” Borrell said in response to a question about whether he was prepared to uphold his statement made in Kyiv that the war in Ukraine “must be won on the battlefield.”
“We will discuss the expansion of assistance to Ukraine,” Borrell's remarks were quoted by the press service of the European Commission.
According to Borrell, the escalation of tensions in Donbas is only set to increase in the coming days. He noted that one can now travel to the Ukrainian capital without any problems.
“You can go to Kyiv as much as you want, I am a witness. We have again opened our mission there,” Borrell added.
Moreover, he reported that the foreign ministers of EU countries will discuss the large-scale application of sanctions against Russia and new restrictions; however, he declined to answer whether the issue of imposing an embargo on oil supplies to Ukraine would be discussed.
