Armenia Submits Urgent Request to ECHR Against Azerbaijan

On March 24, the representative for international legal matters submitted a request to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) for the application of interim urgent measures against Azerbaijan concerning recent violations against the population of Artsakh. This information was reported on the official Facebook page of the Armenian representative for international legal matters.

"Specifically, concrete evidence has been presented that since February, Azerbaijani forces stationed near the village of Kharamor in the Askeran region have been periodically threatening the peaceful inhabitants of Artsakh, demanding that they leave their homes and vacate the area. The request for interim measures also includes incidents of indiscriminate gunfire by Azerbaijan in March targeting the peaceful population of Artsakh, including schools, resulting in damage to the main pipeline supplying natural gas to Artsakh, leaving the entire population without natural gas supply. In these severe weather conditions, the entire population of Artsakh, including hospitals and schools, has been forced to survive without natural gas.

Such violations pose a direct threat not only to the village of Kharamor but also to the entire population of Artsakh. Based on these facts and comparing them with the case law of the European Court, the Armenian representative for international legal matters has stated that Azerbaijan's actions pose a direct risk to the fundamental rights of the Artsakh population protected by the Convention and contain a threat of irreparable loss. The European Court has been requested to implement interim urgent measures against Azerbaijan and obligate it to cease the threats, gunfire, and restore the natural gas supply.

On March 25, the representative for international legal matters also approached the International Court of Justice, drawing attention to the aforementioned violations committed by Azerbaijan," the statement reads.
