Three Assassination Attempts Against Zelensky in a Week: The Times
Three assassination attempts against Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky have been thwarted in the past week. According to the British publication The Times, two different squads were sent to kill him: mercenaries from the Wagner private military company and special forces from Chechnya.
The report states that in Kyiv, Wagner’s mercenaries suffered losses during their attempts and were concerned about how accurately Zelensky's security officials predicted their actions.
Simultaneously, on February 26, another assassination attempt against Zelensky was prevented in the outskirts of Kyiv. Representatives of Ukraine's security services reported that the Chechen special forces group was neutralized before reaching the president.
According to the publication, Wagner mercenaries were unaware of the hired Chechens and attempted their own efforts to kill the Ukrainian president. They arrived in Kyiv six weeks before the start of the Russian Federation's special military operation and monitored the actions of 24 high-ranking targets.
The Times reports that the Wagner group was supposed to wait for the arrival of the Russian Spetsnaz, which would create a secure corridor for them to exit Kyiv after the assassinations were completed.
It is worth recalling that on the morning of February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the launch of a special military operation aimed at the demilitarization of Ukraine. In a televised address, he stated that the circumstances require “decisive and immediate actions” and that the peoples of the Donbas republics had requested assistance from Russia.
According to the Russian leader, all responsibility for the bloodshed will rest with the regime in power in Ukraine. He called on Ukrainian soldiers to disobey the criminal orders of the Ukrainian authorities, lay down their arms, and go home.
