South Korean President Calls on North Korea
The President of South Korea, Moon Jae-in, called on North Korea to cease creating tensions in the region and to respond to calls for dialogue during a National Security Council meeting on Sunday. This statement follows North Korea's latest missile launch, as reported by TASS with reference to Yonhap.
The South Korean leader noted that yet another missile launch from North Korea poses a challenge to the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, the establishment of peace and stability in the region, and the diplomatic efforts of the international community. He emphasized that the launch violates the relevant resolutions of the UN Security Council.
Furthermore, the South Korean leader indicated that North Korea is approaching a violation of its moratorium on nuclear testing by launching ballistic missiles. “Until today, North Korea had maintained its moratorium on nuclear tests and the launch of medium-range ballistic missiles, expressing a willingness to engage in dialogue. However, we can consider that by conducting the launch, they (North Korea) have come close to departing from the moratorium,” the agency quoted Moon Jae-in's remarks.
Earlier, Yonhap reported that North Korea had launched an unidentified projectile from the Jagando province. The Joint Chiefs of Staff in South Korea announced that they are monitoring relevant movements in North Korea.
