New Quarantine Rules in Germany

The Bundestag has approved new quarantine rules for individuals infected with coronavirus and their contacts. The voting took place in the German parliament on Friday. Those who have come into contact with infected individuals will be exempt from mandatory isolation if they have received a booster vaccine.

Additionally, in case of infection, the duration of quarantine will be shortened. This decision is made to prevent a severe shortage of staff in several sectors due to the sharp increase in the number of infections. Individuals will now be able to exit isolation after seven days if they receive negative results from a PCR test or a rapid test.

Germany's Health Minister Karl Lauterbach stated at a special session of the Bundesrat that the pandemic has reached a 'turning point.' He emphasized that the question now is whether it will be possible to manage the situation in a way that reduces the manifestations of the pandemic in the future.

‘We must take advantage of this opportunity, and we have the means to do so. We have the means to end the pandemic in Germany this year,’ Lauterbach said, referring to the active vaccination of the population.
