Turkish and Azerbaijani Radio Frequencies Detected in Armenia
The newspaper "Zhoghovurd" reports that Turkish radio frequencies have been detected in Armenia, including in Yerevan. Moreover, in several regions, Azerbaijani radio stations have also become accessible alongside Turkish channels. Experts suggest that there is no need for alarm.
Citizens began to speak up about the presence of Turkish and Azerbaijani radio frequencies in Armenia following the 44-day war. In an interview with "Zhoghovurd", Samvel Harutyunyan, Deputy Director of the Republican Center for Telecommunications at the Ministry of High Technological Industry of Armenia, noted that these frequencies existed even before the 44-day war. He advised to avoid unwanted radio channels.
“Radio broadcasts are also audible from the other side of the border in Armenian, which is directly related to the dissemination of radio frequencies. This is a characteristic of radio wave propagation that does not recognize borders or states. We simply cannot fight against it. Often there are suggestions to install jammers, but Armenia is itself a member of the European Broadcasting Union and has commitments not to create interference for radio networks operating in the civil domain,” the expert explained.
Additionally, during the conversation with the newspaper, the expert raised another issue concerning foreign nationals arriving with phone numbers from other countries, who immediately pick up Turkish radio networks upon landing at the airport. The location services on these citizens' phones indicate that they are in Turkey. In response to this, Harutyunyan stated: “This means that their networks have contracts with the same Turkish networks, which can offer better conditions to the subscriber.”
