Patrol Officer Acted Lawfully: Police Response to Notorious Incident
The police have responded to our article titled "Incident in Yerevan: Officer in No Mask Issues Fine to Driver for Not Wearing a Mask."
The statement from the police is as follows:
A patrol officer stopped a taxi driver transporting passengers, who was driving without a seatbelt and without a mask. In a video circulating on the internet, the driver fails to present his documents and claims that the police officers are not wearing masks.
In connection with this matter, we inform you that the patrol officer acted lawfully and was guided by the RA Government's Decision No. 1514-N, as well as the requirements of the Minister of Health's Orders No. 17-N and No. 23-N. This means that wearing a mask is mandatory in enclosed spaces and in vehicles that conduct passenger transport. In open spaces, wearing a mask is not required.
Additionally, two administrative violation reports were drawn up against the driver for driving without a seatbelt and without a mask.
Once again, we urge everyone to adhere to road traffic rules and anti-epidemic safety regulations. Administrative violation reports will be drawn up against those who violate the rules.
