Authorities Sequentially Release Syunik's Mayors
Authorities are conducting fake propaganda against the opposition mayors or candidates of Syunik ahead of the local self-government elections, aiming to disillusion their potential voters. Primarily, they have focused on Goris' detained mayor, Arush Arushanyan, spreading false information in Goris that even if he is elected, he will not be released from prison.
This is reported by Hraparak.am. The fact is that the detained mayors from Syunik are temporarily imprisoned and are being released one after another. For instance, yesterday, former Sisian Mayor Arthur Sargsyan, who was elected as a member of parliament by the “Armenia” alliance, was released from custody and will soon start his work in the National Assembly. Goris’ deputy mayor, Menua Hovsepyan, has also been released on a bail of 30 million dram.
The primary character in the local elections, Arush Arushanyan, against whom these authorities have concentrated their efforts, is expected to be released during a court session scheduled for November 5, as there are reportedly no grounds for keeping him in custody, according to his lawyer.
