COVID-19 Leads to Cases of Blindness, Ophthalmologist Reports
The COVID-19 virus affects various systems in the body, and the visual organ is not immune to the infection. This was stated by Anna Hovakimyan, head of the department of eye inflammatory diseases at the Malayan Eye Center.
“This virus leads to vascular damage, and we have cases of blindness when crucial vessels are blocked to the extent that restoration of blood supply is no longer possible,” the doctor mentioned.
According to her, COVID-19 related infections have increased. Hormones are frequently included in treatment regimens for COVID-19, and prolonged use of these can exacerbate and complicate cataract conditions.
