VIDEO: Defense Ministry Says Issues on Goris-Kapan Road Are Beyond Their Authority, Governor Claims No Cause for Concern – Anna Grigoryan

During a question-and-answer session, the Speaker of the National Assembly effectively admitted that he is unaware of what is happening in Syunik and the conditions that have led to the security risks present there today. This was stated by Anna Grigoryan, a member of the 'Armenia' faction during an NA speech.

“The Speaker of the NA is officially the second person in the Republic of Armenia, and if the head of the leading structure with the number one mandate doesn’t know what is happening in Syunik, how can that be explained?” Grigoryan emphasized, noting that the authorities have surrendered the only interstate road connecting Goris and Kapan.

“Mr. Simonian inquired if I had sent inquiries regarding this situation; yes, on the same day the Goris-Kapan road was closed, I sent inquiries to various departments to understand how traffic in that section should be regulated. So far, I have received a letter from the Defense Ministry stating that these issues are beyond their authority. The governor went yesterday and said, ‘The Azerbaijanis have placed themselves in their territory, and the Russians are there too; there is no need to be concerned.’ So, what is your role? Are you a government or not?” Grigoryan stated. “Those who speak in the name of the people should properly communicate with the public and explain what issues they might face.”
