Lavrov on Restoring Diplomatic Relations Between Russia and Georgia

Official diplomatic relations between Russia and Georgia are currently nonexistent. This was highlighted by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov during a meeting with students and faculty at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations, as reported by TASS.

“As for Georgia, we have almost no relations. They have essentially been severed at Tbilisi’s initiative. We have expressed our willingness to restore them more than once,” he stated.

Lavrov pointed out that despite the almost complete absence of diplomatic relations with Georgia, Moscow and Tbilisi still share areas of mutual interest, and he admitted his fondness for the country. “Of course, we engage in trade. By the way, it is quite significant; we are among Georgia’s leading trading partners. We have a flow of tourists; our tourists love to visit Georgia. I personally love that country as well,” Lavrov declared.
