Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan to Conduct Joint Exercises on the Afghan Border

More than 10 aircraft and helicopters from the Central Military District (CMD) will be deployed in the joint exercises of Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan at the Kharb-Maiden training ground, located 20 kilometers from the Afghan border, TASS reports.

The exercises will feature Su-25 attack aircraft, Mi-24 assault helicopters, and various modifications of transport military Mi-8 helicopters. During the main phase of the exercises, pilots will accomplish tasks to detect hidden positions of a conditional enemy and deliver missile strikes on targets.

The crews of transport and landing helicopters will ensure the tactical drop of troops and will practice maneuvers to evade strikes from mobile anti-aircraft missile systems of a hypothetical adversary.

Earlier, the CMD noted that the exercises are being conducted against the backdrop of the destabilization of the situation in neighboring Afghanistan, aimed at developing countermeasures to possible threats and ensuring security and stability in the Central Asian region.
