VIDEO: I assure you that our positions are strengthening day by day - Hovik Aghazaryan
The position of the Minister of Defense is political; therefore, the fact that the minister has resigned is not a terrible thing, as the General Staff is in place and fulfilling all its responsibilities. This was stated by Hovik Aghazaryan, a member of the Parliament's 'My Step' faction, in an interview with NEWS.am, referring to the absence of a Minister of Foreign Affairs, Secretary of the Security Council, and now also a Minister of Defense in Armenia.
"The Minister of Defense holds a very important political position, with a clear set of functions, which is also important for the recent events in Yeraskh. However, there are processes that have emerged after the snap elections and must reach their logical conclusion. Regarding the border incidents, there is the General Staff and the Chief of the General Staff, who are in their places and fulfilling their duties. In that sense, there is no need to worry," Aghazaryan said.
Addressing concerns that the adversary is trying to resolve the issue of the Syunik corridor by carrying out actions in Yeraskh, Aghazaryan commented, "The enemy is trying to create hotspots not only in Yeraskh but also in various locations to exert possible pressure on our government, so they can gain what they consider more favorable positions in the negotiation process. But I assure you that our positions are strengthening day by day, therefore, their aspirations and the fact that Aliyev claims Azerbaijan has defeated Armenia, and so on, shows that this is not true. Because a leader of a winning country does not behave like that. Thus, he has something to feed his opposition and his people."
Aghazaryan emphasized that our positions are strengthening in the sense that after painful losses, our people made their choice and believe that the overall young government is leading the state in the right development path, the results of which we are already seeing in other areas. In particular, in connection with the 2.6 billion euros of investment programs to be allocated by the EU and other sectors."
In response to a remark that the same Europe was silent during the 44-day war when Azerbaijan was committing war crimes, the MP replied, "The international community and political elite have for decades considered the liberated lands around Nagorno-Karabakh to be Azerbaijani lands that should be returned. Unfortunately, perhaps there are some of those elements within that silence."
