Akunk Community in Armavir Faces Irrigation Water Issues for Over 20 Years
Residents of several communities in the Armavir region staged a protest today along the Yerevan-Armavir highway. The reason for their demonstration was the lack of irrigation water. The residents, engaged in agriculture, reported that due to the absence of irrigation water, their vegetables and fruits are drying up, leading to significant financial losses.
Among the protesters were residents of the Akunk community. The head of the Akunk community, Gevorg Misakyan, stated in an interview with ArmDaily.am that he does not believe the issue can be fully resolved this year. “I think this problem can only be partially solved. People have faced this same issue for 20 years, which is why they either do not cultivate their lands or only yield 50% of their planted crops. This is indeed a very serious problem for us; we have raised this issue every year for 25 years. In some areas, we drilled deep wells, which helped in some places, but the problem has not been fully resolved,” he remarked.
