EU Calls on Armenia and Azerbaijan to Continue Negotiations Under the Minsk Group Co-Chairs' Auspices
The European Union welcomes the actions taken by Armenia and Azerbaijan, with the support of Georgia, which resulted in the release of 15 Armenian prisoners by Azerbaijan on June 12 and the transfer of maps of mined territories by Armenia. This was stated by EU High Representative Josep Borrell.
"These actions are important gestures aimed at humanitarian purposes and building trust from both Baku and Yerevan, which hopefully will pave the way for further cooperation between the parties, ultimately leading to the release of all Armenian detainees and the handover of all existing maps of mined areas to avoid further human casualties," Borrell noted.
He emphasized that the European Union and other international actors have actively encouraged steps in this direction and urged continued cooperation among the involved countries in this context.
"We will continue to promote a sustainable and comprehensive resolution to the conflict, including, where possible, implementing measures aimed at stabilization, post-war recovery, and building trust, as well as reaffirming our call on Armenia and Azerbaijan to re-engage in substantive negotiations under the auspices of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs," the EU High Representative stated.
