I Do Not Believe We Are in a Situation Where There Is an Issue of Acting Against National Interests as Mentioned by Ara Aivazyan - Mher Grigoryan
I do not believe we are in a situation where the issue mentioned by Ara Aivazyan exists; naturally, national interests are a priority for everyone, but I do not see any such occasion. This was stated today by Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan during a conversation with journalists at the National Assembly, speaking about Ara Aivazyan’s resignation as Foreign Minister and the statements made at that time.
It is noted that Ara Aivazyan stated upon his departure that his resignation was motivated by the desire to ensure that there would never be any doubt that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs could take actions or agree to ideas and initiatives that are against our statehood, our national and state interests.
Mher Grigoryan suggested that questions regarding the subtext of Ara Aivazyan's statement be directed to Aivazyan himself. “The diplomatic front should be strong, but I believe that the questions should be directed to Mr. Aivazyan, and he will provide a more comprehensive answer to those questions. Let us understand the seriousness of the moment, and I do not understand how it is possible to endlessly disseminate rumors that there is a secret annex in the document to be signed. There is no such thing; what is being discussed is maximally public and cannot be a secret document. The Armenian side has not discussed and will not discuss corridor-related issues. If by corridor some people mean transport routes, that is another matter, but if by corridor people mean any circumstances related to sovereignty, I assure you that this is excluded from our discussion agenda,” he said.
Speaking about the issue of captives, Mher Grigoryan noted that there has not been a single occasion, meeting, or opportunity where that issue has not been discussed and also expressed hope that this issue will find a resolution, while stating that he cannot currently say anything specific.
