The 'My Step' Faction in the National Assembly Thwarts the Adoption of a Statement on Armenia's Borders

During an extraordinary session of the National Assembly, a declaration was put to a vote, stating that the Acting Prime Minister cannot authorize any document that concerns changes to the territory of the Republic of Armenia.

The declaration was not adopted, with a vote of 25 in favor, 0 against, and 0 abstentions. The 'My Step' faction did not participate in the voting.

The declaration recalled the requirement of the Armenian Constitution, which stipulates that such matters are resolved through referendums. The decision to hold a referendum is to be taken by the National Assembly based on the government's proposal.

Additionally, it noted that international treaties are also subject to ratification by the National Assembly. Otherwise, they contradict the Constitution and cannot be ratified.

The declaration also addressed the delimitation and demarcation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani contact line, asserting that any international document related to these matters is subject to mandatory ratification.

The National Assembly called upon the Acting Prime Minister to refrain from unilateral decisions regarding the future of the public, state, and nation.
