Washington to Demand Baku Withdraw Its Forces from Armenian Territory, US Presidential Adviser to Pashinyan
Acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan held a phone conversation with Jake Sullivan, the US President’s National Security Adviser, at his initiative. According to the press service of the Prime Minister’s Office, Pashinyan expressed gratitude for the statement made by the US President on the anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, highlighting its crucial significance.
The interlocutors discussed the situation at the Armenia-Azerbaijan border. The American side deemed the actions of Azerbaijani forces within the territory of Armenia unacceptable and provocative, and stated that the US position will also be presented to the Azerbaijani leadership with a demand to withdraw their forces from Armenian territory.
Adviser Sullivan praised the restraint shown by the Armenian side in the given situation and the steps taken to resolve issues through diplomatic means rather than military ones. The Prime Minister’s Office also reported that the US side expressed concern about the Armenian prisoners held in Azerbaijan and emphasized the importance of ensuring their return.
The US President’s National Security Adviser commended the Armenian government’s commitment to strengthening democracy and assured that the US will continue to support Armenia in promoting its democratic agenda.
