Makunts Awaits Parliamentary Dissolution to Depart for Washington

The head of the My Step faction, Lilit Makunts, has received the agrément for her appointment as Armenia’s ambassador to the United States, which means the U.S. government has agreed to accept her. She is now waiting for the dissolution of the National Assembly to proceed to Washington.

Since Makunts' nomination has caused unrest among the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' employees, the government has decided to establish a 'ceasefire' with the ministry's staff and ambassadorial candidates. Following this decision, Ruben Kharazyan, who has nearly 30 years of experience in the ministry, has been appointed as Armenia’s ambassador to Turkmenistan. Similar appointments of professionals are expected in the near future. The authorities have also promised to refrain from gross interference in the internal affairs of this established institution.

It is worth noting that the revolutionary interference in the internal workings of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs began in 2018 when party 'diplomat' Ruben Rubinyan was appointed as Deputy Foreign Minister.
