How to Fight Against Genocide Without Fighting Against Denial: French Parliament Member Valérie Boyer
French Parliament member Valérie Boyer is in Armenia. On her Facebook page, she shared a photo taken from the Tsitsernakaberd memorial, writing:
“We are in Armenia at Tsitsernakaberd with Guy Teissier, François Pupponi, Marguerite Deprez-Oudébert, Xavier Breton, and Jean-Pierre Cubertafon for the commemoration of the Armenian Genocide. Before leaving, I asked Senate President Gérard Larcher to establish a working group to criminalize the denial of the Armenian Genocide. More than a century ago, Clemenceau wrote: ‘We are once again starting to talk about new disasters in the provinces of Armenia. We know what this word means; it is the official euphemism for the systematic extermination of the Armenians—softening the term.’ Today, we must completely rethink denial, which is nothing less than complicity in the crime of genocide. How can we actually fight against genocides without confronting denial?”
