Unexpected Names on Kocharian's List: Who Are They?
Although there is still uncertainty in the political arena regarding whether the early elections will be held under the old or a new code, several parties are vigorously engaged in compiling their electoral lists. Among the most rigorous vetting is being conducted for Robert Kocharian, who has decided to present a powerful list for the elections aimed at gaining seats.
A variety of well-known figures from different fields are being suggested as potential candidates on Kocharian's list, ranging from businessmen to generals. Names such as Ralph Yirikyan, a former head of the National Security Service, have surfaced. Media reports have also mentioned Seyran Ohanyan and Yuri Khachaturov.
Deputy Prime Minister Armen Gevorgyan is expected to be involved, along with one of Kocharian's former secretaries and other high-ranking officials. Negotiations are underway with former Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan. However, according to some sources, Karapetyan stated that while he would support the effort in every way, he has declined to take a spot on the list.
It is also possible that Artak Tovmasyan, known as ‘Dvin’s’ figure, will join this team, as well as a newly established party in Syunik led by former regional governor Vahe Hakobyan. There are rumors that Arpine Hovhannisyan will be the first woman on Kocharian's list, holding the third position. The leaders of several individual parties that are part of the 17 will occupy more backward positions on the list.
