Aliyev Ignores EU Council Call; Balayan Sees Need for Sanctions

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Armenia to the Netherlands, Tigran Balayan, believes that there is a need to impose sanctions against Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and his regime. Balayan made this statement on his Facebook page, noting that Aliyev's regime does not heed the calls of the EU Council.

“Two months ago, on November 19, 2010, the European Union Council issued a statement urging the parties to take steps towards reinforcing the ceasefire regime in Karabakh and its surrounding areas. Until now, Ilham Aliyev's regime has been doing the opposite,” the ambassador wrote.

Tigran Balayan added that imposing sanctions on Aliyev is the only way forward.
