Maria Karapetyan: Be Specific, Targeted, and Direct in Your Assessments, Arman Tatoyan

MP Maria Karapetyan from the "My Step" faction of the National Assembly wrote on her Facebook page: "Dear Human Rights Defender of the Republic of Armenia, Mr. Arman Tatoyan, your assessments regarding the protection of human rights in the context of Armenia's internal political discourse are increasingly resembling those made by certain circles of the international community during the Second Nagorno-Karabakh War.

I assure you that if you provide targeted assessments regarding the calls for violence and hate speech, insults, and other violations of human rights that have been voiced in recent rallies and interviews, your impartiality will not be called into question. Moreover, I would like to emphasize that this is not about the protection of the rights of public authority bodies, but rather about providing targeted assessments regarding, for example, an MP representing a public authority body calling a segment of the public 'scum', or clearly stating who compelled whom to attend or refrain from attending a rally.

Instead, you seem to 'balance' the assessments you give regarding the calls for violence and hate speech, insults, and other violations of human rights through the mistakes made by the ruling power in the past or, in the absence of such mistakes, seemingly through the activities of directed fake accounts of the ruling power, which claims need to be substantiated with evidence.

Worrying 'very much about the parties' behavior' and calling 'both sides to restraint' serve neither as guidelines for the public from the perspective of human rights (for instance, finally, what can be said publicly and what cannot), nor as proof of your impartiality.

I suggest that you be specific, targeted, and direct in your assessments."
