Shooting Occurs During Protest Dispersal in Minsk; Journalist Injured
Shooting has been reported during the dispersal of protests in Minsk, resulting in a female journalist from the 'Наша Нiва' portal sustaining a gunshot wound in the leg, according to a Telegram channel associated with the publication. The incident took place on Kalvarskaya Street. The journalist was transported to the hospital via ambulance.
Individuals in khaki uniforms opened fire on the protesters. Following the gunfire, gas was used against the demonstrators. Earlier reports indicated that security forces were utilizing flash-bang grenades to disperse the protests. Arrests have been taking place in the Belarusian capital, as well as in Brest and Grodno. Armed individuals have also been spotted in downtown Minsk.
This marks the second consecutive day of mass protests in Belarus following the presidential elections, where the current leader, Alexander Lukashenko, reportedly garnered over 80 percent of the votes according to official figures. The protests have escalated into clashes with law enforcement. Dozens have been injured, with three thousand people arrested and more than 20 criminal cases initiated.
