Death Toll from Beirut Explosion Reaches 135
The death toll from the explosion in Beirut has reached 135, according to reports from the Al Jazeera network, citing data from the Lebanese Ministry of Health.
According to the agency, the number of injured has reached 5,000, with dozens of individuals still reported missing. Earlier reports indicated 100 deaths and 4,000 injured.
It is noted that a powerful explosion occurred at the port of Beirut the day before. Preliminary investigation data suggests that the explosion started in the port warehouses and reached a storage facility of ammonium nitrate, which then exploded and caught fire.
The blast has damaged structures even several kilometers away. All sectors of business in the capital have suffered. In response to the tragedy, the authorities have declared August 5 as a day of mourning in memory of those who lost their lives.
