Details of Erdoğan and Putin's Discussion
The spokesperson for the President of Turkey, İbrahim Kalın, addressed the Armenian-Azerbaijani tensions during an interview on 'CNNTurk'. This was reported by Ermenihaber.am.
“The occupying side here is Armenia. Our esteemed president conveyed this to the honorable Putin the day before,” Kalın stated, adding that Erdoğan asked Putin to use his relations with Armenia to ease the tensions.
Recalling that Russia conducted military exercises with Armenia, Erdoğan's spokesperson noted that Turkey is currently conducting exercises with Azerbaijan, as there is a military security and cooperation agreement between the two countries. Once again extending unconditional support to Azerbaijan, Kalın remarked, “Regardless of where the threat to Azerbaijan comes from, be it Armenia or Russia, Turkey will continue to stand by Azerbaijan. However, this does not mean shutting the doors to diplomacy; rather the opposite. The reason and specificity of our president's phone call yesterday was precisely that. I can say that we have recorded quite good results in our conversation with Putin.”
The spokesperson added that the parties have agreed to take joint steps to reduce tensions, make necessary proposals to the parties, and resume negotiations as soon as possible. “May God grant that we see the results of this agreement in the coming days.”
