Current Model Ensures Checks and Balances, Venice Commission Acknowledges, Says Rustam Badasyan on President's Proposal for Constitutional Court Judges
Armenia's Minister of Justice Rustam Badasyan stated today, July 13, during a press briefing with journalists in the National Assembly, that the Constitutional Amendments Commission is ready to listen to any proposals and organize discussions, especially since the suggestion comes from the President of Armenia.
He also referred to the proposal by President Armen Sarkissian that three judges of the Constitutional Court be appointed by the President rather than suggested as candidates to the National Assembly. “Of course, we will address that, and we will discuss it within the framework of this current model. You know that this model is acceptable to the international community, and we believe that a sufficiently weighed model has been chosen in terms of the various constitutional bodies participating in the process. The current model ensures checks and balances, and the Venice Commission has acknowledged that,” said Badasyan.
