Immediate Ceasefire Urged by Sergey Lavrov to Yerevan and Baku
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia, Sergey Lavrov, has called on Yerevan and Baku to immediately cease fire and exercise restraint.
Today, Lavrov held phone conversations with his counterparts in Yerevan and Baku. “The escalation of the situation at the Armenian-Azerbaijani border was discussed. Lavrov urged both parties to establish an immediate ceasefire and show restraint, considering their commitments, as well as the proposals put forward by representatives of Russia, the USA, and France as co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group and the personal representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office,” the Russian Foreign Ministry commented.
“It is emphasized that Russia will continue to fulfill its mediating mission in communications with Baku and Yerevan within the framework of both its national capacities and the co-chairmanship in the OSCE Minsk Group,” the Russian Foreign Ministry stated.
The statement also noted that all members of the Minsk Group should show a responsible approach to assessing the situation and avoid statements and actions that could lead to an additional increase in tensions.
