Venice Commission to Discuss Opinions on Armenia's Constitutional Court and Collapse of Constitutional Order in the Country

The Venice Commission will discuss proposals for the reform of the Constitutional Court of Armenia and the issue of the criminal offense regarding the collapse of constitutional order in the country during its upcoming session this week.

Minister of Justice Rustam Badasyan announced on his Facebook page that he informed the President of the Venice Commission, Gianni Buquicchio, about the upcoming discussion.

“Today, Mr. Buquicchio, while presenting the Commission's report on its activities in 2019 to the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, also referred to the cooperation between the Commission and Armenia. Mr. Buquicchio specifically mentioned that oligarchic regimes have been toppled in two member states, Armenia and Moldova. “We (the Commission) support these two countries in their efforts to establish democratic systems. One of the challenges, which particularly concerns the authorities of Armenia, but also of Moldova, relates to balancing the need to meet the expectations of the people and bringing genuine changes in the country, while also maintaining legal stability and the criteria of legality,” said Mr. Buquicchio, adding that during our session this week, we will be adopting around ten primarily complex and sensitive opinions,” noted the Minister of Justice of Armenia.
