It Seems There Is an Attempt to Hinder the Unrestricted Actions of Law Enforcement Bodies: Makunts
There is no political order; there are certain cases in the law enforcement field that need to be disclosed. This was stated by Lilit Makunts, the leader of the 'My Step' faction, during a conversation with journalists in the National Assembly today, June 5, in relation to the criminal cases connected to Gagik Tsarukyan, the leader of the Prosperous Armenia Party, and his declaration that these are politically ordered fabrications.
“I believe the opposite process is taking place now, and there is an impression that an attempt is being made to hinder the unrestricted actions of law enforcement bodies. Any such pressure from any force is unacceptable,” said Makunts, adding that an attempt is being made to give a political hue to the criminal case.
“A certain legal process has commenced, which, by the way, 'My Step' faction learned about from the press and the NSS announcement; attempts are being made to give a political nuance to these processes. Since law enforcement agencies have undertaken actions for the disclosure of certain matters, they are qualifying it precisely that way,” emphasized the leader of 'My Step.'
Responding to the question of whether there are many coincidences when Tsarukyan announced a 100% resignation of the government and criminal cases emerged, Makunts replied, “In my deep conviction, and the recent publications attest to this, there has probably been a certain leak from the law enforcement system that has been known to individual members of the Prosperous Armenia Party or perhaps one member, maybe even the leader of the faction. I do not know, and the first step to defend themselves was to make a political statement, which they could qualify as a political process or political influence. That is all. It is not a coincidence that immediately after the statement of the leader of the Prosperous Armenia Party, the message from the Prime Minister's spokesperson was published, which might have meant something to many of us, but we didn’t particularly understand the details. The subsequent events came to testify that, yes, in reality, certain information has become available to the Prosperous Armenia Party, and an attempt is being made to present legal processes under a political hue. As for how that information became available to the Prosperous Armenia Party, I do not consider it appropriate to mention any specific structure right now,” she said.
