113 Deaths in One Day: What is the Situation in Iran

Iran has recorded the highest number of deaths from the coronavirus in a single day, reports The Guardian. The publication details that on Saturday, 113 people died from the new strain of the virus within 24 hours.

The total number of fatalities in Iran has now reached 724, while the number of confirmed cases stands at 13,938.

The World Health Organization was first informed about the coronavirus outbreak by Chinese authorities on December 31. The virus is known to have spread from Wuhan city in Hubei province. Outside of China, the majority of infections have been identified in South Korea, Iran, and Italy. In total, cases have been confirmed in over 110 countries.

Globally, the number of confirmed coronavirus infections has surpassed 153,000, with death tolls exceeding 5,700.
