Coronavirus Cases Reach 75,567: Details
According to the daily report from the State Health Commission of China, as of 16:00 on February 21, the number of confirmed cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has reached 75,567, with 5,206 suspected cases. Among the confirmed cases, 18,654 individuals have recovered (24.2%), and 2,239 deaths have been recorded (3%). Currently, 11,633 patients are in serious condition. This information was provided by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Armenia.
As per the World Health Organization, as of February 20, there have been a total of 75,748 laboratory-confirmed cases worldwide. Outside of China, 26 countries have reported 1,073 cases.
Experts state that in 80.9% of cases, the disease progresses in a mild form. The high-risk groups include the elderly and individuals with other concurrent illnesses. Severe cases are observed in patients with cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and respiratory disorders.
As of today, the mortality rate for the infection (COVID-19) has reached 2.3%. Moreover, the mortality rate is higher among men (2.8%) compared to women (1.7%). The mortality rate increases with the patient's age: it stands at 0.2% for individuals under 39, 0.4% for those aged 40, 1.3% for 50-year-olds, 3.6% for 60-year-olds, 8% for 70-year-olds, and 14.8% for those aged 80 and above. No deaths have been recorded among children under 9 years old, although younger children are being treated in hospitals.
It should be noted that healthcare workers are also at risk, with 3,019 infected, of which 5 have resulted in fatalities.
