Cancer Patient Arrested in Turkey for Insulting Erdogan
A cancer patient in Turkey has been arrested on charges of insulting President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and promoting a terrorist organization. It has been reported that Aytan Sarikaya Kesler, who was returning to Turkey from Switzerland, was detained at Istanbul Airport during a passport check when an arrest warrant was revealed, according to Ermenihaber.
After her arrest, Kesler's health condition worsened while being transported to the Istanbul Courthouse, resulting in her losing consciousness and requiring hospitalization via ambulance. Despite her serious condition, a remand decision was made concerning her detention.
Kesler's lawyer stated that the defendant is gravely ill and her condition has deteriorated. According to the lawyer, judges did not take into account the incompatibility of the woman's condition with detention when making the decision, adding that, in addition to cancer, the woman suffers from several other illnesses.
