Minister of Education Attempts to Convince 3 Parliamentary Factions to Vote Against Their Own Proposal
The Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports, Arayik Harutyunyan, is opposed to the proposal submitted to the parliament by representatives of three parliamentary factions. He stated that it would be difficult to convince them to vote against it, but he will try.
The proposal concerns the opening of paid places in vocational and secondary education institutions, in addition to the existing free spots in schools. The authors of the proposal argue that there is a necessity for this, as there are many applicants.
However, Harutyunyan stated that there is no need for such a measure, as there is a lack of demand for these specialists. He explained that, for instance, the Ministry of Health claims that there are no places for nurses because the market is oversaturated. In contrast, according to Harutyunyan, thousands of places are currently being added for training IT specialists.
He called for a vote against the proposal, to which the Speaker of the National Assembly, Ararat Mirzoyan, responded that he is putting the parliamentarians in a difficult position.
