Joint Settlement of Armenians and Azerbaijanis in Nakhchivan: Arman Abovyan's Proposal
The Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs provided some clarifications regarding the negotiations surrounding the Artsakh conflict; however, this phase of talks raised more questions than answers. During the parliamentary announcement hour, Prosperous Armenia Party MP Arman Abovyan shared his opinion on the matter.
Abovyan mentioned that he understands the concept of diplomatic silence, yet discussions about a 'joint settlement' project have emerged in foreign media. Accordingly, it has been suggested that Armenians and Azerbaijanis should live together.
The MP expressed his opposition to such a method, arguing that it would not lead to good outcomes and would at a minimum create tension. He stated, 'Such actions can only occur when the Republic of Azerbaijan recognizes the full independence of the Republic of Artsakh. After that, they can negotiate about anything they wish.'
He further added that if foreign partners desire such a program, he proposes implementing a joint settlement scheme for Armenians and Azerbaijanis in Nakhchivan.
