«I Fear Our Society» - Karen Hovhannisyan
Karen Hovhannisyan, a Kurdish and Turkish studies expert, posted on his Facebook page: “I fear our society. I read the comments on the prosecution's statement regarding the death of a conscript on January 30, and I am horrified. People seem inclined not to seek solutions to the fundamental issues but to envision this or that person's son as dead or convicted.
But does this resolve the problem existing in our army? Will it address the interpersonal issues that are present? Of course, it will not, because after a crime occurs, a legal process takes place, the purpose of which is to punish the criminal, but not to eliminate the underlying issues that exist.
This case today, another case tomorrow, and yet another case the day after, each will be tied to someone's son's name, and time after time society will not demand solutions to the fundamental problems but will seek revenge on this or that namesake. Something is certainly off. The doctor's goal is to heal the patient, while the patient’s goal should be to never become ill again.”
