I urge not to make assumptions about my political views and sympathies: Stepanakert Mayor

Stepanakert Mayor David Sargsyan has issued a statement addressing the upcoming presidential elections in Artsakh, scheduled for March. He notably stated: “Dear compatriots, in response to the misinformation circulating recently in the media and on social networks regarding my political stance and support for any presidential candidate in the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections, I officially refute such information and declare that I was elected as the Mayor of Stepanakert by the will of the people on September 8, 2019. Therefore, I operate strictly within the scope of the functions assigned to the community leader by law and am not part of any political team. My team consists of all the residents of Stepanakert.”

“I call on everyone to refrain from spreading misinformation and to cease making assumptions about my political views and sympathies. I have repeatedly stated that my friends possess various political views, and yes, I have seen them over the years, and I hope to continue doing so. The fact that they all feel free in their political views and act accordingly is another reality, and this has never been and will never be a reason for disagreement between us. I believe that this will not hinder our unity on this or that idea moving forward. Therefore, it is at least puzzling to see this fact being exploited on various platforms and spreading misinformation about my involvement in any political force.”
